Clinical review and medical assessment requirements
Switching between weight-loss medications is a significant treatment change that cannot be made without medical authorization.
Clinical evaluation: Moving from Wegovy® to Mounjaro® or from Mounjaro® to Wegovy® requires a new medical assessment and formal approval by an EU-registered doctor.
Individual suitability: A prescribing clinician will evaluate your overall treatment progress, current dosage, tolerance, side effect history, and health profile before authorizing a switch.
No simultaneous use: Wegovy® and Mounjaro® must never be taken at the same time or combined.
Switching from Wegovy® to Mounjaro®
If your doctor approves a transition from Wegovy® (semaglutide) to Mounjaro® (tirzepatide), specific dosing and interval rules apply:
Approved starting dose: When switching to Mounjaro®, patients must start at the lowest introductory dose of 2.5 mg. Because Mounjaro® targets both GIP and GLP-1 pathways, starting at the lowest dose protects against gastrointestinal side effects while your body adapts to the new active ingredient.
Interval timing: You must wait 7 days after your final Wegovy® injection before administering your first dose of Mounjaro® (starting on what would have been your next scheduled injection day).
Switching from Mounjaro® to Wegovy®
If your doctor approves a transition from Mounjaro® (tirzepatide) to Wegovy® (semaglutide), the following protocol applies:
Approved starting dose: Patients transitioning to Wegovy® are typically evaluated for the appropriate starting dose (often the lowest 0.25 mg starting dose or a dose determined individually by the prescribing doctor based on prior tolerance and clinical history).
Interval timing: A minimum interval of 7 days must be left between your last Mounjaro® injection and your first Wegovy® injection to allow the previous active ingredient to clear safely without overlapping side effects.
